EUROKIDS

A new European society for Kawasaki disease

We are pleased to announce the creation of the new scientific society EUROKIDS, devoted to Kawasaki disease (KD) in European countries. The two first EUROKIDS meetings in Paris in 2021 and Bologna in 2023 were organized to establish an informal dynamic for Kawasaki disease in Europe. Like other organizations such as the IKDS, it now appears that building a first group of physicians to develop EUROKIDS into a dynamic and inventive scholarly society become a priority. Making an early diagnosis and having effective treatment for all patients are the two essential needs still unmet. In addition, even if we have a little more insight into its pathophysiology, the cause of Kawasaki disease remains unknown.

Our main objectives

1. Building a European working group for the benefit of teaching, training and research for Kawasaki disease
2. Continuing education and promote the dissemination of knowledge
3. Accelerate and organize research to address the difficulties of diagnosis and treatment
4. Improve, evaluate and standardize patient care
5. Better support patients on a daily basis by providing them with information and monitoring tools. Increase their involvement in research.

To favor international collaboration our constitution includes

- A scientific Conference every 2/years to present and discuss research in the field of Kawasaki disease.
- The Council has the liberty to choose to organize the Scientific Conference in conjunction with other related scientific societies, like IKDR, KAWARABI among others.
- EUROKIDS website is under construction but will appear soon at https://eurokids.org
In addition, The EUROKIDS group is not intended to work in isolation
- It will rely on already existing European support structures such as the ERN RITA https://ern-rita.org/, the JIR cohort https://www.jircohorte.org/, and the ECRIN platform https://ecrin.org /.
- EUROKIDS will link with patient’s organizations across Europe
