After the death of Master TETSUJI MURAKAMI - head school in Europe of the KARATE-DO SHOTOKAI - happened in 24 January 1987, some elder teachers-trainers in all Europe felt the necessity to group together in order to form an INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION of KARATE-DO SHOTOKAI. So in 1987 the I.K.D.S. - INTERNATIONAL KARATE-DO SHOTOKAI was created in Paris. The I.K.D.S. is an association without lucrative aim, regularly enrolled in the Court of Paris, with legals office in Rue Saint Blaise 53 in Paris. The I.K.D.S. is composed by a managing board and, a technical commission and all the adherents. The technical commission is the heart of the I.K.D.S. its members have the hard role of supervising teaching, of directing the stages, of giving "dan" grades and of course of maintaining the tradition of teaching of the Masters Funakoshi, Egami and Murakami.
The first technical commission was elected in Nancy 1988 and annually the same consolidates and strengthens. One of the necessary conditions to become member of the technical commission is to have been assistant of a Master od Karate-do Shotokai, reckoned by the technical commission and to have at least the SANDAN.
The members of the managing board are the mind of the I.K.D.S.They are elected by the general assembly every year at the summer workshop I.K.D.S.
The president, the secretary and the treasurer are necessary to maintain alive the contacts between the I.K.D.S. and all the adherents during the course of the year despite the huge distances between the various I.K.D.S. affiliated countries.
>During these last years various members of the managing board and various members of the technical commission changed thus marking the way of the I.K.D.S., each of them giving its contribution in the consolidation of our FEDERATION. These people are part of the SHOTOKAI international history and some of them for working reasons, for family reasons or for removal grounds had to leave the I.K.D.S., others remained faithful by working and continuing to work hard to maintain the international spirit of the FEDERATION and the traditional pratice of the SHOTOKAI.
The I.K.D.S. is still today - AFTER SOON 20 YEARS - the first and only organization with a joint teaching method of the KARATE-DO SHOTOKAI. The founder members of the I.K.D.S. are all conscious of the necessity of continuing to unite their own experience thus avoiding to crumble into lots of small groups with only a leader.
The fundamental principe is that of linking the spirit of jointness with the maintenance of a high level, great tradition technical and teaching quality.
The various members of the Managing Board together with the members of the Technical Commission - duringthese years - managed to organize with some efforts large annual I.K.D.S. meetings - such as the summer workshop, the monthly workshops and the seminar in November for all the brown and black belts.
We remind that the I.K.D.S. held SUMMER STAGES: in Nancy (France) in 1988, in Chartreuse (France) in 1989, in Rovinj (Croatia) in 1990, in Paris in 1991, in Font D'Urles (France) in 1992, in Porte Nouvelles (France) for three subsequent years, in Bessans (France) in 1996, from 1997 to 2005 in Bibione (Italy), in Lectoure (France) in 2006 and Fontenay-Tresigny (France) in 2007
